We are seeking completed, feature-length sample scripts to assist with efforts to find a talented screenwriter for a powerful and important feature film project centered on sexual abuse in the Congo.
The tone and scope of this project draws inspiration from films such as “Invictus,” “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” “Winnie,” “Hotel Rwanda,” “The Power of One,” “The Last King of Scotland,” and “12 Years a Slave” — blended with the raw, survivor-centered urgency of “Promising Young Woman,” “North Country,” “Wind River,” and “Spotlight.”
The ideal writer brings experience in one or more of the following: war journalism or conflict storytelling, human rights narratives, and/or African or diaspora stories told with cultural authenticity and deep specificity. Please leave a note in the personal message space if you have this experience or if your submitted sample reflects this.
This is a story that demands both epic scope and intimate truth. We are looking for a writer who can hold the dignity of the African experience while delivering the unflinching, survivor-forward power this story deserves. This project has the potential to make a real and lasting statement on the world stage.
Our budget is yet to be determined. Both WGA and non-WGA writers are welcome to submit.
